Genesis 4:6-7 states, “Then the Lord said to Cain, Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? 7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”
God is ready to pour of his abundant blessings upon us. One of His main requirements is that we walk in obedience and in accordance to his will for our lives. But Time and time again, we choose to turn a deaf ear to his call. We get angry and become discouraged with God.
The bible tells us that Able gave the Lord a more acceptable sacrifice bringing the first fruit of his labor. We know the story and Cain’s outcome. He not only gave a less worthy sacrifice but in his discouragement; killed his brother and became angry with God leading to his demise. This is something we tend to do when things do not go our way. Yet the Lord has put everything within our reach if we would but walk upright, righteous and in obedience before him.
Let this year be a year of elevation by choice and see what the Lord will do. By this time next year, we will talk of the great things God did for us because we chose to elevate in the area of obedience.
Abraham chose to obey the Lord and when asked to offer his only son Isaac, he obeyed the voice of God. I can almost hear him thinking. How am I to become the father of many nations if I offer my son as a sacrifice? He is my seed, God’s promise to me. By faith Abraham believed that the God he served would not fail him. As the word tells us, the Lord provided for himself the sacrifice. There was never a need to offer his son. Abraham believed the promise that he would be a father of many nations.
The word tells us that “God is not a respecter of persons”. In other words, what he did for Abraham, He will do for you, me and the world. For God desires that we live the abundant life he speaks of in his word. The key however is rooted in a life of obedience. Let us therefore choose to elevate in obedience and watch the manifest hand of almighty God move in our lives. He is waiting to bless us as we bless him in our walk of obedience.
